Gameplay Programmer II
Remote (US only)
We are an up-and-coming indie studio working on our first game, a fantasy multiplayer VR game. As avid gamers ourselves, we are passionate about building an amazing VR experience for other gamers who love magic and fantasy style games. We believe our game is an original and industry-defining MOBA game and we are seeking like-minded individuals who want to push the boundaries of their craft as well as player experiences to create a genre-defining game. We are looking for a gameplay programmer as we work towards our game’s early access release this Fall.
With your experience building gameplay features with Unity, you will be instrumental in creating designer-friendly, expandable gameplay systems while optimizing for the performance demands of VR.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Work closely with art, design, and other engineers on a variety of gameplay features
Fix bugs in existing gameplay systems
Write clear, maintainable, portable, and highly functional code
Profile and optimize to remove bottlenecks
Design and implement features such as combat mechanics, level systems, character systems, tutorials, AI, VFX, and UI
Create technical designs, documentation, tasks, and work estimates
Assist and mentor other engineers and team members
REQUIRED SKILLS
3+ years of experience in gameplay engineering, with at least one shipped or live game
Demonstrated experience working with Unity game engine
Strong C# skills and the ability to code and architect gameplay mechanics and tools
Familiarity with real-time multiplayer game development
Strong 3D math skills (linear algebra, calculus, trigonometry) and an understanding of 3D game physics
Well-versed in games and the ability to articulate what is strong/weak about the design of existing games
Self-motivated, strong work ethic, and able to work independently
Creativity in problem-solving and the ability to think outside of the established solutions
Great communication skills and ability to work effectively on collective projects with designers, artists, testers, and other developers across multiple teams.
Relentless ownership and the ability to dive into ambiguous problems.
NICE-TO-HAVE SKILLS
Prior experience with making AR/VR applications
Deep expertise in one or more areas specific to gameplay engineering such as: Animation, AI, Networking, UI, etc.
Experience with telemetry and analytics, especially in games
Experience with security and anti-cheat measures in games
Experience with cloud-based architectures, particularly with services like Azure, AWS
Technical Art pipeline experience, importing, optimizing, and working with environment and character artists
Experience with rapid-prototyping of new and experimental features
CONTRACT DETAILS
Estimated Duration: 6 months with possibility of extension
Pay Range: This is the pay range within the US: $85,000 - $120,000 per hour. This range is determined by an array of factors, including geographic location, training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and market demands. Additionally, it is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role is not eligible for benefits
Location: This role is a completely remote role, open to applicants in any location in the United States. Interaction with other Mystic team members and work delivery will be conducted remotely. Note that interactions with the Mystic team will typically take place during working hours in the Pacific Standard Timezone (PST).
